"This brooch is an example of a wax matrix over which I have deposited silver and then gold plated. One of the more intriguing aspects of electroforming is the ability to develop forms which have simultaneous interior and exterior surfaces. In this case the silver lacquer was painted on the outer surfaces only; when the wax was melted out the exterior texture suddenly became the interior texture as well. The quartz crystals and pin stem were added to the wax matrix and grown in place."
The original object was scanned as a TIFF file on a Nikon Coolscan 4000 film scanner at approximately 4000 pixels on the long dimension. A 300 ppi JPEG file limited to 1024 pixels on the long dimension was then added to the CONTENTdm database.
