Conceived as a tribute to prominent women through history whose contributions to culture and society have traditionally been overlooked or at best undervalued. The installation piece was a collaboration of many different artists under Chicago's direction. There are 39 plates and 999 names on tiles commemorating actual and mythical women. The ambition and scale of the piece results from Chicago's intention to prevent the work from being ignored through the same prejudice that had condemned the celebrated women to obscurity.
