The paper base sheet was formed Western style from 100% cotton rag pulp. Finely-beaten cotton linter pulp mixed with pigments, buffers, retention agent, and methyl cellulose were used to create the grey tones. The pulp tones were applied to the freshly-formed moist carrier sheet by using a plastic grid as a stencil. The paper was then pressed and dried under restraint with blotters.
The original object was scanned as a TIFF file on a Nikon Coolscan 4000 film scanner at approximately 4000 pixels on the long dimension. A 300 ppi JPEG file limited to 1024 pixels on the long dimension was then added to the CONTENTdm database.
