Bread as sculpture: "Parallel clamps and three breads" is a combination of opposing elements, the soft and organic with the hard and machine-like. In this way the aesthetic character of bread as plastic material is emphasized. Individually, the breads and the clamp are objects. It is the co-existence of their divergent qualities that gives the work its sculptural form. Installation view of works featured in "Cookies and Breads: The Baker's Art", an exhibition held at the Museum of Contemporary Crafts in New York City from November 19, 1965 through January 9, 1966.
