The exhibition "Bookbindings by Contemporary French Binders" was the first showing of French book binding in the United States. His Excellency M. Hervé Alphand, Ambassador to the United States, was at the preview show to greet members of the American Craftmen's Council and officially opened the exhibit. The exhibit was organized under the patronage of the Societe de la Reliure Originale. It showcased modern-day binders who respected traditional binding techniques and utilized new materials in their work. The show at the Museum of Contemporary Crafts ran from January 17 through February 23, 1964.
