The exhibition "The Bed" was held at the Museum of Contemporary Crafts in New York from September 23 through November 6, 1966. The emphasis was on the bed as an object which provides a surface for the reclining body. Its goal was to present a range of bed, cradle and hammock forms in a wide variety of techniques and materials from the intricately carved surfaces and shapes, to the stacking plastic bed and the folding cardboard bed. Far left is Cradle/cupboard by Sam Maloof. Solid walnut, linseed oil and beeswax finish. Cradle in sculpted cabinet with two cupboards and six drawers, California. In the foreground is Thonet Cradle, bentwood, 1865, loaned by Simmons Company.
