Environment created by Ralph Hawkings made up of a steel container where the sides are lined with moss and wood and the bottom is lined with rocks. There is a wooden platform on the lower left side and a book on the middle right side. The book is identified as the I Ching, an ancient Chinese guide to life. Image produced in association with the exhibition "Contemplation Environments", on view from January 16 through March 18, 1970 at the Museum of Contemporary Crafts in New York City. The exhibition was developed from artists' submissions for personal meditative spaces. Architect Gamal El Zoghby organized the sixteen selected concepts into an integrated plan covering the gallery areas where viewers were allowed to experience each work.
