"OBJECTS: USA" the Johnson collection of contemporary crafts premiered at the Smithsonian National Collection of Fine Arts in Washington on October 3, 1969. Sponsored by Johnson Wax, it was conceived and organized by Lee Nordness, a New York gallery owner. The director of the Museum of Contemporary Crafts (MCC), Paul J. Smith, served as a co-curator and advisor to the project. After the premier showing it toured the United States and Europe. At the end of the European tour most of the works were donated to American museums that exhibited the collection, including 132 objects that became part of the MCC collection. A book published by Viking Press documents the exhibition and includes an essay by Lee Nordness. "OBJECTS: USA" was on view at the MCC in New York City from June 9 through September 3, 1972.
